The clutch on my '77 engages with a clunk when leaving a stop - worse now that I have to ease/slip it a bit with my 31 tooth sprocket. It's worse the warmer the motor gets. No idea how old the clutch is, but it doesn't seem to slip under load (stock motor). Should I replace or just get used to it ?

there are "cush" springs in the back of the clutch hub you need to check them, if broken you will have he problem you are describing, mikesXS has a repair kit for the springs

| What kind of oil are you using in your engine? If it is too slippery, you can get this kind of problem.

I changed to motorcycle specific 20/50 oil when I got the bike - don't know what was in it before. However, this problem is only apparent when the engine is fully warmed up and is lessened if I engage the clutch as quickly as possible from a standing start. -
the clutch seems good otherwise and doesn't slip under load
