My bike seems to run good when it is warmed up. Vibrates a bit at 60mph, which I am assuming is normal. But it starts a little rough in the morning. Some popping and won't run on choke or idle up when the throttle is blipped. I feel something still is not right. I am wondering if they are out of sync enough to cause this? How important is it to have them spot on? The 73 does not have the vacuum barbs, but I would guess I could get the newer style intake boots and use them? I have vacuum gauges I could use, but figured I would ask here first...

make your own barbs if necessary 3/16 brake line tubing about 1 1/2 inches long, drill a hole into the intake and JBWeld them in, I haven't had any problem sync'ing mine using the dead cylinder method but you may have better luck with a manometer, if you get close with the DC method find a long steep hill rolling along at 35/40 mph in 3rd/4th gear back off the throttle to let the engine compression work, back firing or popping on one side is lean open that side airmix a 1/8 turn, and inter-connecting to two sides with a lenght of vacuum tubing does the final smoothing out... here's where I put my barbs in
