They say MEK will do it.........and some say acetone but it evaporates faster with more fumes..........guess both will trash the paint on the outside.......a radiator shop hot bath should do it........along with the paint.............

MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone) will take it out (WARNING VERY TOXIC) follow all safety rules with this stuff, the POR-15 kit to re-do the tank has a stripper solution in it that is supposed to be MEK

Acetone or methyl ethyl ketone. Maybe others know of something better.

Good luck,

Where can you buy the stuff and how long do you leave it in the tank? Should it be used full strength? Also can someone give me the detalils of how to pressure test a tank.

I didn't think these tanks were designed for pressure?
But you could,
Block off the petcock holes with one blank having a tapped hole with a air stem(something like they would use on a portable air tank) and a expandable plug in the top hole and pressure it to 5-10 lb.s.

If you are checking for holes/cracked seams block of all the holes and put it in a bucket of water and look for bubbles.

the POR-15 kit has a stripper in it if you use it and re-seal the tank you won't need to pressure test it, it doesn't take much to deform a tank with air pressure they weren't designed for that
