So today, I started phase one of my titling process.
the guy I got the bike from apparently has the title... 'somewhere in storage'.. but getting his stoner ass motivated to look is another story. I've offered to buy the beer and go help dig through stuff.. he wont budge. So then I asked him to just write me a bill of sale so that I can start the legal process.. 'but I've got the title somewhere..'
/me bangs head on brick wall
So I said screw it.. I had my brother in law write a bill of sale, as if he was the one to sell it to me.. (dont matter who does it really, since the guy I got it from never registered it to his name).
Went to the dept of licensing with the bill of sale. Apparently you cant gift a bike, unless you are the registered owner.. so I'm gonna have to pay some taxes on it.
Anyways, got the name and adress of the last registered owner and their address. Sure as s***, its the ex-wife of an old buddy.. who sold it to the guy that gave it to me. (Still with me?) Went to the address, dont live there anymore.
So I send off the letter, certified, with the paperwork in it for her to release interest in the bike. It's gonna bounce back, and then I go to the State Patrol for an inspection..
But for now, I wait for the certified letter to return to me, unopened..
to be continued...

If you know the girls name try to look her up through google or switchboard.com
If you can dig her up all you need to do is have her meet you at the DMV

I dunno if I want to dig her up... she is the type to try and get more money out of the situation if she finds out she still legally owns the bike.
She is a russian chick that our friend married when his parents went over there back at the end of high school as missionaries. He came back with her, and we all knew she just wanted a free trip to the states.
Sure enough, she gets her card, she bails on him. Last I knew, she periodically came into Coyote Bobs casino when I was a pitboss there.. maybe 2 years ago. She's remarried since then, and I've no idea what her new married name is.
