This is my 1981 xs special. I picked it up for $325, and put zero money into it. When I bought it everything was fully functional. I did a couple mods, lowered rear and fron, dyna mufflers, flipped over the handlebars.

I also have to tighten up the front shocks they are really soft, yet I dont want to blow theseals, any suggestions?

The stock spec for fork oil is just under 6 ounces per leg. Use 7, that will stiffen the front end a bit and help with dive on braking. You also have 3-way adjustable spring pre-load caps on your forks. You can set them in one of the stiffer positions. My original springs were pretty worn out and I needed to run my caps in the stiffest position. Now with new progressive springs, they're fine on the minimum setting.

get the progressive if you can swing the money I know they cost but much better ride. are you going to build up the seat to be more cafe-ish or riding the way it is? if you want to build try www.dotheton.com and look under there seat build forum. get some good low cost ideas
