Has anyone actually installed one of these? If so please explain how you can put a bigger gear against a stock gear. It don't make sense. I have built a lot of transmissions in my day and still don't understand how you can change gear size on one shaft and not the other. Mayby Mike will explain this

john if those teeth are smaller then they wont mesh correctly with the opposeing gears teeth. the pitch will be off.

it involves the contour of the teeth, by changing it slightly on the new gear they've added one tooth

thats why I geared 18/29......I couldn't undertand all that either......high gear for me has to be about there........I just deal with the rest of them.....eventually I got used to the lowers and even like them now......problem with most people changing to tall gears is they don't give them a chance.....like one or two rides and decide to go back......to bad cause the highway is a lot better curise........

I put one in last summer after my trans went. Had it apart anyway and always wanted a wider range in ratios. Couldn't see any problems with the way it meshed, I think it will be fine.

Roy: Overdrive gear works perfectly. you just don't have the digital magic wand that we have, get rid of your old analog type! Seriously, the gear is another item from my Dutch distributor Jerry Heiden of Heiden Tuning. All of the items we release from him have been thoroughly tested and reflect the knowledge he gained from working for years as a Yamaha factory race tuner and consultant. We do not need the grief that would come from intentionally selling parts that will not work. Lots of other items like this in the pipe now. Gears from later 650's have the teeth cut differently, that's why the overdrive only fits transmissions in later models as listed.
