Howdy Everyone,
Recently picked up this Seeley replica frame with a 650 motor adapted in. This is gonna be a long project i reckon as i have enough projects already Laughing
I've never had much to do with the XS650's before so please bear with my dumb questions....like this one....where the hell do i find the engine number?

On the front of the engine on the lower casing I believe you will find your serial numbers....hopefully.

Thanks TT, and sure enough there it is. Told you i was a noob Laughing A nice surprise too, it's a 447 motor so that pretty much guarantees that i'll be fitting bigger pistons.

from the look of your cam chain adjuster i'd say its a 75 or there abouts. the newer ones just sealed with the adjuster nuts. yours has the adjuster covered completely.

Thanks XSLeo, More knowledge! and from one crummy pic.
I guess the next question then is; is this engine suitable for a big bore and rephased crank job? I've been reading the threads here and it seems that the earlier motors arn't as suitable?

yes it should work out ok. i have a 75 and when i got it the adjuster cover was missing. i found an engine at a local salvage yard. i asked how much for the adjuster parts, they where different than mine so i wanted the whole adjuster. he said you can have the whole motor for nothing. he worked on dirt bikes and wanted to get rid of the street bike stuff. turned out to be an 82 motor. with your engine number you can check it out on mike's or 650 central they both have a list of numbers and the year they were made. that will help some when getting parts they made some changes over the, not many but some. if it ain't broke don't fix it. i think that was ther attitude anyway.
