if i want to richen up my low end on cv38's do i go bigger or smaller on the pilot jets? out on the screws is richer but i'm not sure if they're metering the air or the fuel.

Pilot jet and main jet work the same way i.e. bigger jet will give more fuel.

I am experimenting with the larger pilot jet on my 80......I have been having to run at 3 1/2 turns out and with a slightly bigger pilot I have to turn the screw in to 2 1/2 turns or so.....Dropped 15 degrees off the cylinders and made it run perfect.....The pre 1980 carbs may be different and seem to have a big enough pilots..........

i went from 135 mains and 27.5 pilots to 142.5 mains and 30 pilots. it still doesn't pull hard on the top end and it still hovers when i blip the throttle at idle and sometimes still pops through the filters. i have stock head pipes and mufflers with holes drilled in them, pod filters, and i live at 3200 ft altitude so i thought those increases would b enough, but i did order 145 mains and 35 pilots just in case, so as soon as my bike cools down i'll try those. i did have the needles raised all the way before to compensate for the small jets and now they're in the middle notch so i guess it was an improvement

Now i'm at 35 PJ's (2 up) and 145MJ's (4 up) and 4th notch down on needles (1 up) . It pulled so hard on the test run that it almost scared me...... ALMOST . It idles sweet , runs way cooler and quieter too. Makes owning $18 worth the jets that are too small worth it!!
