can anyone tell me how to set the timing for the cam and stator? I just forget what mark to use on the stator.

Yep. Use the "T" mark (the mark to the right of "T" as you face the engine). With that mark lined up with the rotor mark, the groove on the left side of the cam should be on top, and vertical with respect to the sprocket centers. The punch mark on the cam should be parallel to the head surface. There should be no slack in the front run of the cam chain.
