The owner of the last shop I worked in told me that ALL electronic stuff had smoke in them and if you let the smoke out, you fucked up.

Funny you bring up the "Smoke" and electric today one of my techs at work
switched 2 black wires around on one of the Roof Top AC units. Problem was
one was 24 Volts, the other was 208 Volts. This creates ALOT of smoke,
melted wires and ruined componets. Never let the smoke out it's usually
expensive!

Companies usually use smoke to seal and block componants from other harmful elements( screw-drivers,soldering irons, etc). Once you break the seal, the smoke can no longer be contained and it renders the part useless. Just let the smoke out of a cigarette and see how long it lasts. And to think, the guy at Radio Shack said I was mad!!!
