A good portion of the hardware on my bike is in pretty poor shape… rust, rounded off heads, damaged threads, etc. I want to order some of the more common sizes of nuts, bolts and washers in bulk from McMaster Carr so I can start replacing the existing hardware. What I am looking for is a method of deciphering the part #’s into common nomenclature.
For example…
Part # 97306-06018-00 I’m guessing that this a 6mm bolt, 18mm in length. On longer hardware is there any method of determining what the grip length (unthreaded portion) is?

Got any washing you want done while we're at it?

I had a look at this website, and they have all the McMaster Carr part #'s, what they mean & how much thread is on a screw! Amazing site!

Part # 91290A323 is a box of 100 6mm x 18mm socket head cap screws

Just buy this kit, in stainless & should cover most of what you need, only $175

Awesome site, man those guys have got everything!
I suppose the closest to original spec would be zinc plated?????

Thanks for the quick reply yamaman, but I don't see how McMaster's part number correlates with the Yamaha part #’s. I have found a couple of sites that attempt to break down the Yamaha part number, but the information only helps a little.

I was surprised what my local Westlake Ace hardware has in their specialty fasteners section. Allen head metric stuff too. For the alternator cover, Valve covers. points and advance covers all kinds of stuff in stainless.
