Forget that Cafe' Racers are uncomfortable, back-breakers, blah, blah, blah...
I'm building one to just bomb around town on. I still have my '83 for longer trips.
I've been looking at rear-sets. There are two main options: Buy a kit made specifically for the XS650 or build your own.
I noticed that Omars kit uses the Tarozzi rear sets. Basically, these:

How hard would it be to fab up my own mounting brackets (easy, I think) and connecting rods, etc. (the hard part?)? Is it worth the extra ~$200 he charges to just bolt them on?
What about these? They seem pretty nice for less than $200. tinyurl.com/yq2kaa
I've seen the Wikipedia entry about making them with the Maxim parts, but that takes a good bit of fab, too. Has anyone adapted any other type of rear sets? I see all sorts of tuff off newer model Yamahas on ebay and such for cheap/

Darn it...I can't include two links in the same post. Here's the first one I'm trying to do:

The last ones look really nice and shiny, would look cool but the price is alot. To me at least. seems like you could use something off another bike cheaper?

i bought the second set for mine and i really dont like them. the pics are deceiving from the ebay auction. the pegs stick out way to far for my taste. and the linkages need to be worked a little on the bike. The geometry is uncomfortable to ride as well. The pegs are super high and my hips were killing me. I think i had them on for about an hour when i decided to rip them off the bike. I should have just fabbed my own. they were expensive now that i think about it. I ended up taking them off and putting the stock pegs back on.
