best bet is 650Central UMMM has them set up with correct jetting and he will work with you as far as your intake/exhaust setup if you contact him, SFL's are generic carbs and you end up buying a lot of jets to get them sorted, ain't no such thing as a free lunch son

Jettings not a problem for me as I have a bucket full of various jets for these carbs (used to race with them)...anyhow the jetting you use over there in the States rarely works here...must be down to different climatic conditions/fuel differences etc. SFL's carbs usually only cost me £25 ($40) to re-jet even if I have to buy new 'uns

$245 sure beats the deal I was quoted by 650central. '79 XS650 w/ stock exhaust, they want $477 for two 34's w/Unis. Tuning costs over $200 at that point.

! No need to pay that much. SFL still had sets at $260 the other day - though I bet they'll need the needle-jets changing !
You could buy the set he specifies for the BMW, theyre even cheaper & basically the same, again probably only needing a jet or two changing!

The Carbs on the bike are wrecked. My hamfist brother literally broke them putting them in after I cleaned them for him.
That's why I was looking to put a new set in. The research I did indicated 34s kicked serious ass. I want his bike running though, and we are on a budget

i picked up 2 sets of stock Yam Xs 38's recently on Ebay (here in UK) for £30 & £42...
Got approx 6 sets now so I can easily guarantee building/refurbing 2-3 pairs..
Wish I'd never sold the dozens of pairs that I did over the last 20-30 years...makes me want to weep...

You could have 2 or 3 motors hooked together on that thing before its over...maybe start a carb company.......call it the Royal Carb Company....

No we all aren't on a budget. At least not an under a grand to get it running budget. I know dudes who dropped over a G on a tank & seat alone. Then another 500 on pipes. Not counting purchase price. So I got about 700 into it right now, purchase included. I just want his bike running decent and I'm weighing new carbs vs. a different set to replace what he broke.

Just thought I would throw in my 2 cents. My 78 SE has stock 38 mm carbs........stock jets and needles. Bike runs really well, starts perfectly every time and accelerates well. Spark plugs are a nice tan colour.

My friends 79 XS1100 is the same way.......plugs look like light chocolate ....his 1980 cb900 had stone white plugs until we fixed that........1980 was the start of bad running bikes........thanks to our beloved keepers........
