On the 1981SH, the barbs should be located on the intake connection flange between the carburetors and the head. If you have the stock vacuum setup, you have to remove the vacuum lines from each barb ...

I changed my oil last weekend and found a thin 1" long sliver of hard black plastic. I can only assume it's from the cam chain guide...

Is it necessary to remove the heads to replace the cam chain tensioner and guides or can it be done through the cam chain tensioner mounting plate?

Just a small watch battery in the gauge itself. The sensor just registers the magnet every time it passes.
